When I was a child I was able to a reach a station that was from another country. The distance was apparently 1000 KM, I used big antenna and AM tuner, it was a fun time back then :) The radio station was in another language (apparently Russian), don't remember what is was about.

Radio was something like a miracle for those ones, who are 40-50 now or even older. I have many buddies, who say that their acquaintances from the USSR (not only Russia) were simply charmed by the "Western voices" as they called the stations broadcasting from abroad. Listening to them, they could learn at least some truth about life, as their country was closed to many guys. Honestly, I do not envy these poor (from all viewpoints) people.

It is strange a bit...I mean this feeling: you understand that the time race is so fast! I also remember these happy and bright times, when radio was the #1 source of ANY truthful information. New on TV used to appear later. It was odd and strange to "catch" these stations that were broadcasting from Russia. I could not even imagine that their life was so bizarre. Communism seemed to me the weirdest ideology.

Oh, yes. My grandma is from Russia (better say, the USSR). She left the country somewhere in the 80s. I do remember her stories. Anna told me that they were secretly listening to the broadcasted programs from the USA and the Vatican. That time, it was the forbidden stuff.
